If you've shipped you car to Hawaii, you'll have ten (10) days to register your car. You will need proof of insurance and a Vehicle Safety Inspection before you can register your car. You can obtain a temporary permit to extend the registration, but that will only buy you another 30 days. You will need to know the weight of your vehicle and because you are a non-resident moving to Hawaii the General Excise Tax that might otherwise be charged on new and newer cars should be waived. Here is a checklist of items needed to register your car:
If you have a driver's license
issued in the state that you are moving from, changing your license to a
Hawaii license is not as important as registering your car.
However, having a state license or state identification will qualify for
many kama'aina discounts that are only intended to local residents.
The list of Department Motor Vehicle Offices where you can register your
car, can be found at this
link. |
