The City and County of Honolulu took over public ownership of TheBus in 1971 and it's one of Oahu's success stories. Even though Oahu is known as being an expensive place to live, TheBus has the lowest cost per passenger mile of any system and one of the lowest cost per boarding passengers in the industry. Oahu can boast that the City and County of Honolulu has the sixth highest transit ridership, on a per-capita basis, in the country. TheBus' fleet of vehicles includes hybrid electric, high capacity articulated buses that use 30% less fuel than conventional diesel buses. The City is in the design phase for a rail transportation system and as information becomes available, I will post it to this website.
