TheBoat and the Superferry in Oahu

TheBoat on Oahu:

TheBoat is a ferry on Oahu that travels between Barbers Point Harbor in Kalaeloa (Kapolei) and Pier 9, Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu.  This "commuter-centric" ferry service consists of two vessels with a passenger capacity of roughly 149 people.  The ferry service is provided by the Department of Transportation Services For Honolulu working with Hornblower Marine Services and is intended as one way to help alleviate freeway rush-hour traffic jams.   The transit time is estimated to be one hour each way.  TheBoat fare service is completely integrated into TheBus system and the fares are more than affordable with one-way cash fares ranging from $1 for Youths, Seniors and Persons with Disabilities to $2 for an Adult fare.  Monthly and annual passes are sold at a further discount and there is a shuttle service available when you disembark.  TheBoat leaves Kalaeloa three times in the morning beginning at 5:30 a.m., and arrives at Aloha Tower Market Place.  The 3 return trips from the Aloha Tower Marketplace begin at 4:20 p.m. with the last return trip leaving at 6:50 p.m.  This schedule is for weekdays only and there is no weekend service yet.  Passengers are able to take bicycles and strollers on board but no pets are allowed except for certified service animals.  Luggage is permitted up to 40 lbs per adult and 10 lbs per child, but you must do the heavy lifting and TheBoat employees cannot assist you in carrying your luggage.  Smoking is prohibited on TheBoat, but there is limited food service and a variety of beverages available.  Other available services to make your trip comfortable are:  2 restrooms on the main deck, outdoor seating on the upper deck and free WiFi service.  For a complete service schedule and answers to your other questions, please visit TheBoat's official website.

The Superferry on Oahu:

The Superferry controversy has been resolved and they are now offering daily inter-island ferry service between Honolulu, Oahu and Kahului, Maui.  The ferry can transport pretty much anything from groceries to your automobile.  However, be aware that they have maintenance for the Alakai planned for February 13, 2008 and it should be drydocked for approximately two weeks.   The Alakai is scheduled to resume service approximately March 3, 2008.  To visit the Hawaii Superferry official website, you can click here.
